In 1949, four years after the end of World War II, the cold war was still going on. It was the year when NATO was established, the Soviet Union conducted its first nuclear test, and Germany was divided into East and West.

A new era was beginning to start. Significant events were happening all around the globe. The world we have today was being formed.

In 1949, George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel 1984 was published. President Harry S. Truman began his full term in the US. When the first Emmy Rewards event was introduced, a man in New York was enjoying the first Beetle car sold in the US.

Two months after the first 12 women graduation from Harvard Medical School, The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston admitted its first black student.

In the same year, Houstonians witnessed the first broadcasting of KPRC Channel 2 and Shamrock Hotel grand opening.

The world was evolving, and all communities were going through substantial changes. Postwar prosperity was starting. In the meantime, in the city of Bellaire, TX, an initiative was emerging.

On August 12, 1949, devoted businesspeople of Houston founded The Chamber to create a stronger and better community.

Since then, the Chamber is working to empower the community by creating opportunities and supporting small and medium businesses. Consistently, it continues to grow and expand with the Houston society.

Today the Houston Metropolitan Chamber covers a large and diverse segment of the community. It is serving the greater metropolitan area with its global reach and home town roots.

70 years after the pioneer evolving events, we as the small and medium businesses are the backbone of the US economy. While preparing to embrace the upcoming era and breakthrough technologies, we drive the economy by serving consumers and each other. We stimulate flexible and customized business by providing goods and services to big and global enterprises and government.

We have gone through a lot. We have achieved lots of success and made countless improvements in our society. Now, it is time to celebrate 70 years of building a thriving alliance. It is time to honor the efforts of being together and strong for years.

Join us for The Platinum Gala to support and build the future of our community on November 2, 2019, at The Citadel Houston, 12130 Kirby Drive, 77045, from 6-10 pm.
